The DryCASE team just wrapped up it’s third time exhibiting at the 2013 International CES trade show in Las Vegas. The annual CES exhibition is a show-and-tell of sorts for the world’s largest tech companies. With more than 3,000 companies displaying upward to 20,000 products to an anticipated 156,000 attendees, CES is known as the super bowl of tech trade shows.
There were a great number of eye-catching, jaw-dropping and down right wacky gadgets demonstrated at this year’s CES. The HapiFork; an electronic fork that counts the mouthfuls of food you consume in a given meal, how many seconds past between each bite, and how long it took to complete the meal. We also got to see I’m Here; a pint-sized tracking device designed to help you keep track of everything from your keys to your kindergartner. And just when you thought life couldn’t get any easier Samsung introduced a Smart Fridge. Finally a refrigerator that can offer recipe suggestions based on whats in your fridge at the time. You can view our CES 2013 demonstration here.

These destinations are considered alternative because they are a little bit off the beaten tourist path and will offer a mix of adventure and relaxation.

Apple has led mobile phone sales have led the market for quite some time. With revolutionary technology, innovative marketing, and a huge fanbase…the company has succeeded in becoming one of the worlds largest companies.
However, a few select phones have been chipping away at the super giant’s phone sale. Well, for the first time, the Samsung Galaxy S III has officially “dethroned the iPhone as world’s top seller.” So what does this phone contain that could possibly drive consumers to stray away from Apple?
“Released in May, the Android-based Galaxy S III boasts a bigger touchscreen and longer battery life than the iPhone 4S, along with more megapixels in its camera and the ability to run on 4G cellular networks.” This combination of features along with it “not” being an Apple product could explain the swing in sales. However, these numbers are completely based on third quarter earnings, which for Apple could be low due to the wait for the iPhone 5.
Regardless it is interesting to see a different company take the lead. Will these numbers change your mind? Do you have any thought on the Samsung vs Apple controversy?
Lake Powell….”the lake’s green-water tentacles extend from the main 185-mile (300-kilometer) watercourse into 96 side canyons.”(source)
Sound inviting? Well it sure did for three men who decided to take the challenge on Stand Up Paddle boards over the course of 6 days and a total of 150 miles!
Nelson Powers, Alex Schmidt, and Jake Sullivan took the trip and were lucky enough to experience smooth waters, a full moon, and an overall great experience throughout the journey. Everyone brought along a DryCase to protect their gear from the elements and they successfully completed their adventure.
For more information and a ton more photographs from this amazing trip, be sure to check out the Paddle of Powell blog!
Summer is coming to an official end and days at the beach are becoming limited. However, this just opens up a whole new set of reasons to own a DryCase! With warm weather fading, comes an equally awesome amount of sports and water activities that you will need protection for your phone, tablet, or tech gear…
1. Fishing trips
The air may be getting colder, but the water surrounding North Carolina and the East Coast is about as warm as it will get for the season. This means larger offshore fish such as sailfish, mahi, and grouper are pushing closer inshore and providing anglers with more opportunities for an epic fishing trip. So why a DryCase? Your hands will be wet and fishy…neither of which your cell phone would appreciate if it was outside of a DryCase. Take the stress out of taking photos offshore and bring a DryCase along.
2. Mountain Weekends
Peak leaf season is closing in up in the Blue Ridge mountains and is an amazing experience. Beyond driving and sightseeing you will want to be adventurous and try white water rafting, waterfall jumping, and fly fishing! A weekend on the lake…yes please? This is where a DryCase comes in….why not bring your phone on the white water raft with you and capture video of your families vacation? Or capture a first person experience of jumping off a waterfall to show off to your friends. Regardless of what exciting adventure a mountain weekend holds in store, a DryCase is sure to compliment the trip.
3. The iPhone 5
The rumors are out…we are a mere two days away from Apple’s announcement of the iPhone 5. We here at DryCase are excited to provide a case that will without a doubt fit the new iPhone. If you are a early adopter of technology and manage to get your hands on the new iPhone early…you will need a DryCase for water sports and those first underwater photo tests! Be sure to let us know if you purchase the iPhone and test it out in a DryCase.

Stand up Paddleboarding is a rapidly growing sport which has literally taken over the waterways surrounding Wrightsville Beach. Whether it be a SUP yoga class, a race, or just the causal explorer, SUP boarding is here to stay. With tons of cool features and landmarks, Wrightsville offers some awesome opportunities for exploration.
Warning: Some of these spots pose potential hazards and can result in serious injury! Be sure to know your limits and utilize caution while exploring new areas.
1. The Jetty
Paddle over to Masonboro inlet and spend some time exploring the jettys that protect our beach. There is always a small wave and some heavy current so be sure you are up to the challenge! Also, be sure to watch our for “the Wall”…it is an underlying structure which connects the northern jetty to the beach and is submerged at high tide.
2. Harbor Island Loop
You have probably heard of the “loop” that runners and walkers infamously travel on everyday. Well, this also translates into a nice circle surrounding Harbor Island.. You will get to see the marina, the marsh, and even go under the drawbridge! This is quite a long paddle so give yourself time and keep an eye out for boat traffic.
3. Masons Inlet
This can be a great spot to work on your SUP surfing. Since there is usually a small wave always breaking, and relatively shallow water, Masons Inlet can be a fun way to spend an afternoon. The current here on an outgoing tide can be quite nasty so keep an eye out!
4. Paddle Up Food
Just as you can take a boat up to Dockside, Fish house, and Bluewater….why not paddle up! These are all great restaurants to eat at and some even feature live music on certain days of the week. Stop by and have a drink and be sure to keep an eye on your SUP board.
5. Lollipop Marshes
These are actually more accessible from the Wrightsville Beach side…regardless the marsh trails between Harbor Island and “Lollipop” offer some incredible wildlife, scenery, and SUP maneuvering. Watch out for oysters on a super low tide however!

Earlier this month we had a similar story occur when a phone was lost for 13 days at sea…well it happened again!
Our buddy John Sweazen from Facebook contacted us with the incredible story of losing his phone in the ocean and nearly giving up hope of finding it when his iCloud kicked in and alerted him to his phone’s location.
From the man himself:
” My iPhone decided to take an 8-hour swim in the Atlantic Ocean today. I had totally written it off when amazingly I received notification from iCloud that my phone had been located... 2.3 miles up shore from where it was lost.
Within minutes I was on the beach in that area. A very kind gentleman also on vacation had fished it out of the surf and had planned to drop it off at the local fire station. I don’t think he had any clue that the phone was still functioning!
Between DryCASEand Apple’s iCloud / Find my iPhone… I have been reunited with my iPhone once again! Miracles DO happen!”
Check out the 2.3 mile path it took down the beach here!
We here at DryCase use GoPro cameras all the time for filming and for taking awesome photos. So here is a quick how-to for capturing awesome slow motion shots!
Built into every HD Hero 2 ( not sure if it was in the first model) is the ability to change the Frames per second rate from the normal 30fps to 120fps! This creates much more room to slow down a video in post and keep it from being jumpy.
Combining this with MPEG stream clip…(found here) and then a video editing software can create some amazing slow motion.
1. Navigate to settings
2. It’s the second option..it should show a square and say “1080″ 30fps
3. Press the top button and scroll through the different fps options until you get to WVGA 120fps
You are now recording in 120fps and you will notice a difference when you edit your videos in post…Good Luck!
This summer has been amazing for DryCase. With more phones and tablets hitting the market then ever before, and more people needing a waterproof protection device for their devices, the reviews for DryCase are growing rapidly. We have been lucky enough to be featured on…
